Sort lines alphabetically or by length, ascending or descending, with optional de-duplication.

Text Tools Runs in your browser

What does the line sorter do?

A line sorter arranges a list of text lines into order. NMSnabbit sorts lines alphabetically (A–Z or Z–A) or by length, and can ignore case, trim whitespace and remove duplicates in the same pass. Everything runs in your browser, so even long lists are sorted instantly and privately.

How to use the Sort Lines

  1. 1 Paste your list — one item per line.
  2. 2 Choose the sort order: A–Z, Z–A, shortest first or longest first.
  3. 3 Optionally ignore case, trim each line or remove duplicates.
  4. 4 Copy the sorted list.

What you can use it for

  • Alphabetising lists of names, words or keywords.
  • Cleaning up and ordering CSV or log lines.
  • Organising to-do lists or bibliographies.
  • Ordering items by length for layout testing.

Frequently asked questions

Can it remove duplicates while sorting?
Yes. Enable “remove duplicates” to keep only the first occurrence of each line in the sorted output.
Does it sort case-sensitively?
By default sorting respects case. Turn on “ignore case” to sort A–Z without separating uppercase and lowercase letters.
What is length sorting?
Length sorting orders lines by the number of characters they contain, from shortest to longest or the reverse.
